By: Contributor(s): Material type: ArticleArticleLanguage: En Publication details: 1987Subject(s): In: CRC Critical Reviews in BioTechnology v. 6, no. 1, p. 61-85615046Summary: Groups of beneficial microorganisms which are currently used in commercial agriculture or may be of practical use in the future are reviewed. These includeRhizobia, Frankia, other N-fixing bacteria such as Azotobacter and Azospirillum, vesicular arbuscular mycorrhiza and ectomycorrhiza. The effects of specificity, inoculant preparation and application are considered. Indirectly beneficial inoculants used in biological control of plant pathogens and the use of plant growth promoting fluorescent pseudomonads is covered. The use of fungi in the biocontrol of arthropods and biological control of weeds with plant pathogens isbriefly discussed.
