Deep moisture extraction and crack formation by wheat and safflower in a vertisol following irrigated cotton rotations
Material type: ArticleLanguage: En Publication details: 1984Subject(s): In: Reviews in Rural Science no. 5, p. 299-304615180Summary: The abilities of wheat and safflower to dry and crack a furrow-irrigated cotton soil at Narrabri, NSW were measured in the 1980 winter season. Wheat and safflower were effective in drying the profile to beyond the measured depth of vertical macropores (40.2 ñ 8.3cm), including the massive layer. Wheat extractedmoisture down to about 85 cm in all cotton rotation treatments, whereas safflower extracted moisture to 145cm in fallowed plots but shallower in the more intensive cotton rotations. However, it was more effective than wheat in each case. The dimensions of vertical macro-pores were not significantoy different between wheat and safflower regardless ofItem type | Current library | Collection | Call number | Copy number | Status | Date due | Barcode | Item holds | |
