Corn response to zinc on Illinois soils
Material type: ArticleLanguage: En Publication details: 1989Subject(s): In: Journal of Fertilizer Issues v. 6, no. 3, p. 68-76615168Summary: Field experiments were conducted over a 3-year period with maize at a total of 82 site-years to evaluate the Zn status of Illinois soils. Sites were selected that had soil chemical or physical properties favouring Zn deficiency, including high pH or Bray P1 extractable P, low OM, sandy texture and/or suspected of showing Zn deficiency symptoms. Soil extractable Zn was determined with three extractants: DTPA, EDTA-(NH4)2CO3 and 0.1 M HCl. Zinc was applied as ZnEDTA at 1 or 2 lb Zn/acre before sowing. Whole plant samples were taken at the6-leaf stage and ear-leaf samples at silking and analysed for Zn content. Grain yields were also determined.
