In a three year investigation of the effects of A. sterilis at 0, 5, 10 and 15 plants/m2 on crops of two Spanish and two Mexican winter wheats, the Mexican varieties Siete Cerros and Yecora, particularly the latter, were more competitive than the others. Yecora is the earliest, the shortest and the highest yielding and, with regard to number of ears/m2, grain weight per ear, grain yield and straw yield, was the variety least affected by the presence of wild oats.
