| Summary, etc. | The response of 17 maize genotypes (hybrids and open pollinated varieties) to gray leaf spot disease caused by Cercospora zeae-maydis was studied in 1997 at 2 sites in Uganda, Namulonge and Kamenyamiggo. Multiple disease symptom assessments, using a 1-5 scale and percent ear leaf area affected (PELAA), were used to derive apparent infection rates (r) and areas under disease progress curves, to assess genotypic response to the disease. Genotypes NZI, INT2, H622 and INT3 had significantly higher r,AUDPC and PELAA values and were considered very susceptible, whereas INT 1, INT 4 and INT 5 had extremely low values and were considered resistant. |
