Summary, etc. The objective of this study was to map a stripe rust resistance gene in a PBW343/Kenya Kudu RIL population. Seedlings of PBW343 were susceptible to Pst isolates Mex96.11 and Mex08.13, whereas those of Kenya Kudu were near susceptible. The population was phenotyped in the field at Toluca, Mexico, with a mixture of the two isolates. Segregation occurred for a single a major gene for immunity as well as segregation for additional minor genes for resistance. A total of 1,200 SSR primers were used in genotyping the parents and the resistant and susceptible bulks. Four polymorphic markers on chromosome 2BS were used to genotype the entire RIL population. The major gene in Kenya Kudu, temporarily designated YrKK, was located on chromosome arm 2BS and was linked to flanking markers gwm148 and wmc474 with genetic distances of 1.8 and 2.6 cM, respectively. Stripe rust resistance genes Yr27, Yr31, Yr41, and YrP81 are located on chromosome 2BS, but all of these genes confer seedling resistance to avirulent races. Yr27 and Yr31 are ineffective to at least one of the two races used in this study. We conclude that YrKK is an uncharacterized APR gene that confers immunity to avirulent Pst races.
