| Summary, etc. | A high proportion of farmers in the rainfed areas of Northern punjab use N and P fertilizars on wheat in doses of about 50 kg N/ha and 50 kg P2)5/ha, on average. The official blanket recommendations, however, are about 110 kg N/ha and 60 kg P2O5/ha. This paper contends that farmers low doses of N and P coukd be due to their rationale for management of risks associated with uncertain climatic conditions. With the additional hypothesis that the response may be complicated by land type and previous crop. Rabi (winter) rainfall have an important effect on the response pattern, especially through its interaction with N. |
