Summary, etc. |
In Ararat Valley, under the summer-autumn growing conditions, numerous bean varieties of different geographical and ecological origin from the word beans collection were studied, out of which varieties Dragon Tongue, Brittle Wax, Green Crop and Blue Lake of Phaseolus vulgaris were selected. Variety Masisi banjarayin being cultivated in Ar- menia was chosen as a check. For the first time under Ararat valley condi- tions, possibilities of summer planting of bean into wheat stubble were studied. Optimal planting and growing practices for variety Masisi banjarayin, as well as the effects of planting dates on bio-mor- phological characteristics of yield were determined. Field trials were carried out on an experimental field of vegetable and gourd crops in 2000-2002. On-farm trials were conducted at the village of Jraovit, Ararat district, on brown irrigated soils. Soil cultivation and other practices in all variants and replications were carried out under the established procedure. The studies showed that the tested varieties differed by the length of the growth stages. According to the obtained data, days to maturity of Brittle Wax were 87 days, which suggests its earliness. It is further evidenced by the fact that it was harvested for 5-9 days earlier than other varieties. The studied varieties also demonstrated variability in days to green pod appearance, which ranged from 44 to 48 days. Varieties Green Crop and Blue Lake Durable were characteristic of the long period of bearing green pods. The evaluated bean varieties showed high variability in aboveground biomass and the leaf area under conditions of summer-autumn growing. The study results provide evidence that the nutrition area has exerted influence on plant development rate and stages. It has been established that an increase in the nutrition area results in the corresponding increase of the number of generative organs, leaf area, plant height and yield. High values for important traits were recorded at the beginning and at the end of pod bearing under conditions of the relatively larger nutrition area, which ensures a 0.5% yield increase as compared to the check. The planting dates had a certain impact on bio-morphological traits and yield of bean. Forvariety Masisi banjarayin, the best planting date is July 20 as it contributed to higher number of pods per plant and resulted in high yield (12.5 t/ha), exceeding the check by 5.8%. It should be noted that in late plan- tings anthracnose and false mildew frequently affect the plants. Based on the economic analyses, Dragon Tongue and Green Crop have been identified as the best bean varieties. Every additional1-dram inves- tment in inputs to grow these two varieties resulted in 9.7 and 6.86 drams of net profit, respectively. Dragon Tongue and Brittle Wax have showed higher yield than Green Crop (150d/kg). On-farn1 trial data have fully confirmed the experimental results. Varieties Dragon Tongue, Brittle Wax, Green Crop and Blue Lake are highly suitable for canning and freezing. |
