520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Among feasible approaches to employ lysine increase given by "opaque-2" in Argentine germplasm, following methods are employed: a) "Fast": preparation of single and double pseudo-hybrids from "opaque" pseudo-inbreds originated in commercial inbreds. b) "Slow": same as precedent but starting from pseudo-inbreds backcrossed to their corresponding recurrent "flint" parent. c) "New hybrids": obtention of "opaque" inbreds and preparation of new hybrids. d) "composite": integration of many "opaque" accessions in one composite to get varieties directly or to self for inbreeding. All of these procedures involve obtention of grain with "opaque" texture arising some important problems: 1) Yield decreases per surface unit; 2) Less resistance to insects and to storage and transportation conditions; 3) Farmer's preferences and existing official grain-trade regulations. From what has already done it is possible to draw some preliminary conclusions: a) Observed advantages derived from working with enough breeding material to be able to get profit from high variability recorded in both lysine and protein contents and morphological characters; b) Feasibility of contention of "opaque" cultivars produced from local material ("flint"), c) Possibility to avoid partly aforementioned disadvantages and accomplish future release of these materials; d) Need to have efficient micromethods for lysine determination.
