Summary, etc. Con el proposito de definir mecanismos de utilidad para el mejoramiento genetico en el genero Tripsacum y una mayor comprension del fenomeno de apomixis, se estudio la coleccion de 203 plantas (80 poblaciones) que el Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maiz y Trigo (CIMMYT) conserva en Tlaltizapan, Morelos; los estudios de laboratorio se desarrollaron en las instalaciones de CIMMYT en El Batan, Texcoco, Edo. de Mexico. La colecta comprende diez especies (Tripsacum australe, T. bravum, T. dactyloides, T. andersonii, T. intermedium, T. maizar, T. zopilotense, T. peruvianum, T. lanceolatum y T. pilosum). Se llevaron a cabo estudios de citologia, embriologia (mediante clareamiento de ovarios), prueba de progenie (por electroforesis), morfologia y cruzamientos intra e interespecificos. Para los estudios citogeneticos, se mentuvieron en invernadero macollos de las plantas bajo estudio, colectandose puntas de raiz de cuatro semanas de edad; se realizaron conteos cromosomicos por tincion con aceto-orceina. Se encontraron especimenes diploides en T. zopilotense, T. australe, T. maizar y T. peruvianum (8, 3, 2 y 1 planta respectivamente); el resto de las especies estudiadas no mostraron individuos diploides, por lo que, si se pretende utilizarlas para propositos de mejoramiento genetico, este aspecto seria un factor limitante. Se observo una abundancia de individuos poliploides (basicamente tetraploides), algunos triploides y T. andersonii con 64 cromosomas. Para los estudios de embriologia se disectaron inicialmente 30 ovarios por poblacion y se clasificaron por tamano; se evaluaron diferentes tecnicas de clareamiento, encontrandose que la de Young et al. (1979) fue la mas adecuada para el genero; asi mismo, se determino el tamano adecuado para el estudio de la meiosis en la celula madre de la megaspora, el cual resulto ser de ovarios con tamano menor o igual a 2 mm. Para el estudio de la meiosis se evaluaron 17 poblaciones, correpondientes a 9 especies del genero (27 plantas), disectandose 30 ovarios por planta; se procedio al analisis de dichos ovarios, en plantas diploides y tetraploides, encontrandose en plantas diploides la presencia de tetradas y en poliploides la presencia de diadas, lo cual en todos los casos correpondio al nivel de ploidia. Para efectuar los estudios de progenie se colectaron semillas de diferentes plantas (plantas madre), se disectaron los embriones y se sembraron en medio de cultivo a base de solucion nutritiva y se desarrollaron bajo condiciones adecuadas con el proposito de utilizarlos en pruebas de electroforesis en gel de almidon; se llevaron a cabo 16 corrimientos electroforeticos en siete sistemas enzimaticos A Tripsacum collection (T. andersonni, T. australe, T. bravum, T. dactyloides, T. intermedium, T. maizar, T. peruvianum, T. lanceolatum, T. zopilotense and T. pilosum, 203 plantas, 80 populations) was studied. Cytological studies were done with tillers of these species grown in greenhouse; samples of root tips (four weeks of development) were collected and chromosomes counting was done by orcein coloration. Plant diploids were found in zopilotense, australe, maizar and peruvianum (8, 3, 2 and 1); other species did not show diploids. For embryology
