520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Since the work of Saltanlura (1918) and Sax (1918), the chrorllosome numbers in Triticz~772 are ltnown to be 2n = 14, 28 and 42 for diploid, tetraploid and hexaploid species, respectively (Kihara, 1924). No exception to this polyploid series has been reported. Neither any B-chromosomes have been yet found in wheat, though they are Itnown to be present in a species of Aegilops, the most closely related genus to Tl-itic~i~~~ (Mochizulti, 1957, 1960). During the course of a cytological investigation of the tetraploid Emmer wheat, the author found 15 instead of the expected 14 chromosome pairs in a strain of TT~~~CZL~JZ &IYLLBZ var. nzelanopzw. Of those, one pair consisted of two minute chromosomes, which behaved in sollle respects like B-chromosomes. The results of a detailed cytological investigation of this durum vaiety are here reported.
