El achaparramiento del maiz puede causar bajas importantes en la productividad del cultivo en la region de Centro America. El PRM viene efectuando mejoramiento genetico para tolerancia al achaparramiento en la Poblacion 36 desde hace varios anos. La variedad CESDA-88, formada por cruzas de las poblaciones 24, 26 y 28 por Frances Largo, ha mostrado buen potencial como fuente de resistencia. En este estudio se evaluaron 200 familias S1 del ciclo 5 de seleccion de la poblacion. 36 y del CESDA-88 en dos localidades de Republica Dominicana bajo niveles contrastantes de enfermedad. Se seleccionaron las mejores 10 familias para formar variedades sinteticas que se esperan que sean superiores a las poblaciones base |
