Cooperation of Armenian Technology Group Foundation and CIMMYT started in 1996 with CIMMYT providing seed of200 varieties to ATGF for testing. These varieties were planted in various ecological zones of Armenia. Based on selection criteria, including yield, quality, lodging, disease and drought resistance, cold tolerance, shattering, etc., ATG selected 5 varieties for further testing, including SN 64, ECVD 12, ID 800994, OK 82282, and PTZ- Niska. After three more years of testing these va- rieties were entered in a seed multiplication program and distributed among the farmers. In 1997CIMMYTagainprovidedAGTwith six additional varieties for trial, including Dagdash, Gun-91, Kinaj i, 94-1, Sultan and Gerek. Based on the trial results, Dagdash was selected for seed multiplication and use by farmers of Armenia. . In order to maintain the high quality seed pr9duction of these varieties, ATGF is maintaining breeder seed plantations in 2003/2004. ATGF is continuing research of variety SN 64 throughout Armenia as both a winter and spring planted variety.
