DNA profiling of korean wheat cultivars using microsatellite DNA markers

Cho, E.G.

DNA profiling of korean wheat cultivars using microsatellite DNA markers - Mexico, DF (Mexico) CIMMYT : 2003 - p. 172-173 - Printed

Microsatellite markers have revealed a specific genome distributed randomly along the linkage map of A, B, and D genomes of bread wheat. Also, mapping of microsatellite markers in hexaploid wheat (T. aestivum) has been successfully applied to assess the genetic diversity of germplasm, including in commercial European varieties (Roder et al.1995; Plaschke et al.l995; Roder et al.l998). Many varieties have been developed using several restricted elite lines, implying a narrow genetic background. An approach using molecular markers could provide an effective method to assess the genetic background of each cultivar and provide information to breeders in order to broaden the genetic variations in their breeding programs.
