Zillinsky, F. J.

Breeding triticale for adaptation to rainfield, high altitude environments - Mukteshawar, India : CIMMYT, 1979. - 7 pages

Prepared for the triticale workshop at mukteshawar, India, April 22, 1979.

The triticale improvement program at CIMMYT in Mexico utilixes two entirely different environments in alternate cropping cycles. During the winter cycle the nurseries are grown in the Yaqui Valley at sea level under irrigation and high productivity. The summer cycle nurseries are located on the High Plateau, near Mexico City, with altitudes ranging between 7200 to 8600 feet above sea level. Screening segregating populations at such widely different environments provides an excellent opportunity to develop material with broad adaptation.
