Extract: Wheat flour consumption in Indonesia is highly responsive to income growth and changes in wheat and rice prices. Indonesian wheat imports could reach 1.9 million metric tons or more in 1985, depending upon whether the Government pursues an active policy of encouraging imports. The U.S. share of that market could be more than 1 million tons. Raising the price of rice is the most direct means by which the Indonesian Government can both lower the cost of imported food and reduce the country's reliance on the international rice market.
