Current status of barley yellow dwarf in the United States: A regional situation report - 1990 - Printed

Barley yellow dwarf (BYD) can be observed annually in small grains throughout the cereal growing regions of the United States. Epiphytotics have generally been localized within limited areas of individual states and have occurred sporadically from year to year. Widespread yield losses attributable to BYD have not been sustained consistently by growers of any specific region. Increased recognition of BYD as a virus-induced disease associated with aphid spread, improved cultivar resistance and tolerance, and appropriate planting recommendations have helped reduce potential losses to BYD. Perhaps for these reasons and recent annual environmental conditions
