Races of maize. 6: Isozyme variation among races of maize in Bolivia - 1983 - Printed

7 tables; 3 graphs; 43 ref.; Summaries (En, It)

Collections representing 31 races of maize (Zea mays L.) of Bolivia were screened for 23 isozyme loci. Principal components and cluster analyses suggested that most high elevation materials were closely related. The two popcorn races, Pororo and Pisankalla, were the most distinctive of the Bolivian races, while the low elevation Coroicos resembled the Andean materials. The results were in general agreement with previous studies of the Bolivian maize races and were notably consistent with the cytological studies of chromosomes knobs. Both isozyme and chromosome knob data suggest that most Andean materials are rather closely related, despite their substantial morphological differentiation
