Production of haploid plants of new wheat and oat donors through wheat x maize and oat x maize crosses - 1995 - Printed
1 graph, 4 ill., 2 tables; 21 ref. Summaries (Cs, En)
Stabilization and homogenization of genetic properties of wheat and oats using this method is based on wide crosses of chosen genetic resources of wheat with maize, and oat with maize. The major purpose was to verify a method for obtaining the growing embryos after wide crosses, and to test suitable biotechnological procedures for in vitro cultivating embryos and subsequent dihaploidization using colchicine. Among three series of wide crosses various amounts of embryos from pollinated florets were obtained. The frequency of embryos obtained ranged from 0 to 48 %. The possibility of obtaining embryos from crosses of intact plant and from crosses on detached stems (EDS), and usability of female components obtained in the field or cultivated in the glasshouse were also evaluated. Extirpation and in vitro cultivation of haploid embryos, their cytogenetic control, subsequent dihaploidization and plant cultivation till maturity showed that this method was effective for rapid developing genetically homogeneous materials. It was confirmed that successful solving and especially the frequency of embryos depended on accurate handling the plant materials and growth media used
