Histology of the caryopsis of yellow dent corn, with reference to resistance and susceptibility to kernel rots - USA : USDA publications, 1935. - Printed

Inasmuch as the kernel of corn (Zea mays L.) is susceptible to a number of ear rot organisms, it has seemed advisable to obtain a picture of the histology of the normal spikelet and kernel as a basis for the study of various phases of the disease problem. This paper, therefore, outlines briefly the development and the microscopic anatomy of the caryopsis of dent corn and is concerned primarily with those structures that may have a bearing on the problem of host resistance or susceptibility to fungus diseases in general and to invasion by Diplodia zeae (Schz.) Lév. in particular.
