Semi-dwarf rice mutants and their agronomic evaluation - 1982 - Printed

Experiences with induced semi-dwarf rice mutants, isolated at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and also at some other institutions in India are briefly reviewed. In most of the cases, the dwarfing gene in the induced mutants is found to be allelic to Dee-geo-Woo-gen gene but a few instances of non-allelism are also reported. Use of induced mutants in hybridization experiments, on a limited scale, have indicated promising results. Several hybrid derivatives that combine the desirable traits of semi-dwarf stature, long slender quality grain, translucent kernel with high yields and/or moderate resistance to stress conditions have been developed.
