Triticale breeding objectives at CIMMYT have been redefined around the adaptive advantages of complete karyotype triticales over 2D(2R) substituted types and other small grains in marginal environments. This shift in emphasis towards complete karyotype triticales extends to utilisation objectives. Current triticale breeding aims at various types of products for human consumption, high protein or high energy feed grain, dual-purpose (forage/grain) triticales, and forage/grazing triticales.
