Penicillium in pre-harvest corn in Valencia (Spain) 2. Study of the enzymatic and toxigenic capacities of the species - 1986 - Printed

Tables, references p. 17-18

This study examines the enzymatic and toxinogenic capacities of 169 str. of P. spp. isolated from 116 samples of pre-harvest maize. High levels of amylolytic and lipolytic activities were recorded. Proteolytic, cellulolytic andurease activities were low. Using thin layer chromatography techniques, ochratoxin A was detected in extracts of P. variabile, rubratoxin B in P. purpurogenum and citrinin in P. steckii [P. citrinum]. Toxicity levels against brine shrimp larvae and 12 microorganisms (10 bacteria and 2 yeasts) indicated great variability amongst the extracts. The use of these characters in the taxonomy of P. is mentioned.
