Christeller, J.T.
Seedling growth of Zea mays at 13oC: Comparison of a corn belt dent hybrid and a hybrid selected for rapid plumule emergence at cool temperatures - 1984 - Printed
Peer-review: Yes - Open Access: Yes|http://science.thomsonreuters.com/cgi-bin/jrnlst/jlresults.cgi?PC=MASTER&ISSN=0022-0957 Tables, graphs, literature cited p. 963
Intact seed of hybrid maize cv. was germinated and grown in the dark at 13øCor the hybrids were grown as dissected embryos or as dissected embryonic axes onnutrient agar. Plumule length of the hybrid selected for cool temp. tolerance was greater than that of the corn belt dent hybrid but there were no differencesin radicle growth. Growing dissected embryonic axes at a range of sucrose conc. showed that growth parameters of the tolerant hybrids were always greater than those of the corn belt dent hybrid.
