The study has two aims: (1) to decompose the total change in per acre outputbetween new and old technology into constituent forces, and to determine the contribution of irrigation to growth in output; (2) to decompose the total change in employment per acre between the new and old technologies, and to determine the contribution of irrigation to the growth in employment. The data relate to the District of Ferozepur, in the Indian Punjab, for the year 1967/68, and cover 127 local wheat farms and 76 Mexican wheat farms. It is found that there had been a considerable increase in per acre output (36.5%) and per acre employment (41.4%) with the introduction of new
