Roots from 3 inbred lines of maize were used in a trial to ascertain efficiency of potassium and sulphate uptake. The Vmax assessments showed a lowerlevel of heterosis for potassium than for sulphate uptake. Yield was positively and significantly correlated with the absorption of sulphate but not with that of potassium. No coordination was observed in the uptake by the roots of the 2 ions.
