The mechanisms by which the soil pesticide dazomet (tetrahydro-3, 5-dimethyl-1,3,5-thiadiazine-2-thione) influenced the supply of N to maize (Zea Mays L.) were investigated on a sandy soil. The treatments were 15N-labelled dazomet (431kg dazomet ha-1, containing 74.7 kg N ha-1), with or without unlabelled N fertilizer, 15N-labelled fertilizer [122.4 kg N ha-1 as a mixture of (15NH4)2SO4and K15NO3], with or without unlabelled dazomet, and a control without dazomet or fertilizer.Dazomet applied alone increased maize dry matter at maturity from 7 t ha-1 in the control to 13.7 t ha-1.
