Root-tip mitosis was studied in 4 lines of hexaploid winter triticale, usingC-banding. Some of the rye chromosomes lacked terminal C-bands. The amount of heterochromatin present in rye chromosomes, judged by the number and size of terminal C-bands, was highest in Sv8008 and WW31433, which also showed more pronounced grain shrivelling than Lasko and AD201.
