Two accessions of T. monococcum and 18 of T. dicoccum collected in southern Italy were studied in the field at 3 localities for their reaction to natural infection by Puccinia graminis, P. striiformis and P. recondita and were also inoculated in the greenhouse under controlled conditions with 6 biotypes of P. recondita, 15 of P. graminis and 3 of Erysiphe graminis. In the field, both accessions of T. monococcum were completely resistant to all 3 Puccinia species;no accessions of T. dicoccum were more than moderately susceptible.
