Searching for a model for collaborative research programs on intractable problems of maize production in Africa: examples from the Rockefeller Foundation's Striga-resistant maize initiative for Africa
De Vries, J.
Searching for a model for collaborative research programs on intractable problems of maize production in Africa: examples from the Rockefeller Foundation's Striga-resistant maize initiative for Africa - Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) CIMMYT|EARO : 1999 - p. 199-202 - Printed
Development of Striga-resistance in maize forms the principal objective of an on-going program by The Rockefeller Foundation which unites the efforts of advanced laboratories, international agricultural research centers, national agricultural research systems and farmers. The formation of collaborative research groups around the problem of Striga infestation or maize in Africa provides an opportunity to examine: 1) processes for development of new varieties with resistance to routine and intractable constraints to maize production, 2) institutional linkages between entities involved in development of these new varieties, and 3) the potential for future collaborative programs which address other intractable problems.
